Labour and Birth care

I support you to birth however you choose.

  • I will be on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • I respect your wishes and needs at all times.
  • Nothing will be done without your consent.
  • I support you in receiving all the available information to make informed choices.
  • I support your right of consent or refusal.
  • A second midwife will also attend your birth at home. This is a legal requirement.
  • I carry emergency medications and equipment for all births at home.
  • I will treat heavy bleeding and perform resuscitation as necessary. I maintain regular training in this area.
  • I will stay with you for several hours after birth.
  • I will provide support and guidance of uninterrupted breastfeeding.
  • If you or your baby require medical care I will accompany you to hospital as a private midwife.
  • I have access to Sunshine Coast University and Gympie Hospital to provide private midwifery care.
  • I will support your family to be involved in your birth experience.
  • With your consent, I perform an initial assessment of your new baby, including birth weight.
  • I encourage the participation of all the family.
  • You will be provided paperwork to register your baby’s birth.
  • There is no Medicare rebate for homebirth care. There is a rebate for hospital birth care.
  • I am available for you to phone me if you have any concerns regarding your own or your baby’s wellbeing.
  • I will visit you the next day after birth.

I carry a birth kit including:

  • Waterproof doppler and pinnards for listening to your baby’s heart rate
  • Birth pool, pump and pool liner
  • Resuscitation equipment, including oxygen
  • Catheterisation and cannulation equipment
  • Suture materials
  • Drugs in case of postpartum haemorrhage
  • Equipment for cord care
  • Scales for weighing baby
  • Legal birth documentation
